‘Écume des jours’ holds a particularly personal place in the story of Clème. It was the first artwork I created using this technique — and the piece that led me towards a new path.
Inspired by the Gulf of Morbihan and created as a gift for my parents, the work translates a marine chart of the region into ribbons.
Three shades of blue reveal its changing depths, while white traces the coastline and touches of orange define its islands within.
The piece took a year to create, worked on in the quiet hours after full-time work and throughout my weekends, and became an exploration of patience, experimentation and new beginnings.
Named after Boris Vian’s novel, ‘Écume des jours’ echoes a symbolism of passage into adulthood and embracing new responsibilites — and, for me, the decision to leave behind a predetermined path and build something of my own.
Today, ‘Écume des jours’ has found its place in our family home in Brittany — where it all began.
